Who do I blog for?
>> Tuesday, 3 November 2009
Do I blog about Japan for myself? Not really, I mostly blog for 3 groups of people.
1. People who have visited or want to visit Japan.
2. My Japanese students who are interested in my opinions about Japan.
3. Other Japan bloggers.
Group one, the fans of Japan.
These people love Japan but aren't able to live here. For some crazy reason, they want to be me, living in Japan and experiencing what I experience on a daily basis. What is boring, usual and normal for me in Japan appears to hold some kind of fascination for them.
A fascination I am happy to feed.
Group two, my students.
I've developed a bit of a following amongst the students at my school and my university classes. It always makes me happy when I walk into a classroom and a student asks me about something I've written about on my blog in the past few weeks.
Usually it's questions about why I feel that way about Japan or why I find something interesting.
After all, my ideas and opinions are..... foreign.... to them.
Group three, other Japan bloggers.
I guess it's a pretty odd community of expats who are living in Japan for our own personal reasons and there seems to be a pretty large community of people who write about life in Japan.
I must admit that I am more of a blog writer than a blog reader and I apologise to everyone who hasn't recieved enough comment love from me.
How about you? Seriously, why do you read this blog?

I read your blog because i'm a number 1
I read lots about Japan, but your blog is more real. your not trying to sell japan you just blog it. so it's nice to see what japan is really like. i've met people online who are like 'yeah england is so cool...' but i hate it here, but there not going to put that on tourists sites. The only thing i like about England is Banksy (an artist).
oh What do you teach? and have you ever herd of someone called ya kito and how did you end up in Japan anyway?
i ment to say Aya Kito
I'm one of those crazy people who are soooo jealous of you being able to live in Japan. And yes, everything that may be mundane to you, I read with rapt fascination. :p
@Em
Just use Em in future, it's the better choice.
Why sell Japan? Either people are interested or not, and if they are then I'm the one to show them.
I teach English at an Ekaiwa.
@Lina
Then I will keep on reporting stuff that's ordinary here but different to elsewhere.
I suppose I was in the first group until the start of last year, as I wasn't quite sure about living in Japan again after so long and it was interesting to see other non-Japanese residents' views of their everyday life.
Now I am in the third group, albeit not a very prolific or insightful blogger right now :(.
Well, it's good to know that you have made a commitment.
Join Entrecard, it's good.
I am in group one. I visited Japan once, for two weeks. I found your blog as I was planning my trip and found it intriguing. I continue to follow your blog because I love reading about the details of your experiences in Japan.
Thanks Amy.
I'm glad you enjoy my experiences, but feel free to leave a suggestion of something you'd like me to write about.
I might just go out and do it!
I only just discovered your blog thru Stumble, but I find it fascinating and I'd like to continue reading it.
I am an American but I really want to live in Japan, its a lifelong dream - one I may soon attain because I have just joined the Navy and may be stationed there.
I guess it's all normal for you, but thanks for taking the time to write and educate us japan-fans <3
Hey Kitti, glad you like it.
Is your name any relation to the KittiHawk?
