Flossing
Tuesday, 20 October 2009
I have a dentist appointment on Thursday and it's got me thinking about my teeth again.
People who know me know that I will brush my teeth 3-4 times a day, I'm serious about using mouth wash and a tongue scraper. Nothing beats a tongue scraper for fresh breath.
But I have to admit that I am pretty slack with my flossing, maybe once or twice a week at best. One thing I find very interesting about Japanese people is that they almost never floss.
It's a question that comes up very often in my lessons, "how often do you go to the dentist?" "how often do you brush your teeth?" "how often do you floss your teeth?" and I'm surprised by the answers. I've only heard once or twice that a Japanese person regularly flosses, it seems to be something that crazy foreigners do.
I think flossing is very important. How about you?

When you see Japanese teeth, that tells me they need to start flossing.
More like an Orthodontist!
But you aren't wrong.
wow people in japan really taake this teeth brushing thing really seriously... and you really feel the urge to tell us every little detail of your life. i wish celebs' would do that.
brushing teeth is important i agree stinky breathe bad when it comes to dating... yeesh.
But I'm not Japanese, I'm an Australian guy living in Japan.
People seem to find my life interesting, so I report things in my life that I find interesting.
Everyone *knows*, intellectually, that flossing is important to dental health, but for most people it's a difficult habit to form and maintain, and I think that's true pretty much worldwide.
What they know and what they do are often two completely different things....
