New HP DV6 Notebook
Tuesday, 14 July 2009
As some of you might be aware, I am going to Australia for a short holiday soon.
On Thursday! W00T!
Anyhow, I needed a new laptop for this trip as the keyboard & battery on my old Compaq are dead and the monitor seems to be dying. I've had it for over 5 years, so I can't complain.
When shopping for a new laptop I did my usual blind touch typing test. "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog" and "Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of the party" to see how the keyboard & feels. The HP was the only one to pass this test, also it has a number pad on the right. Just like a real keyboard.
So here's the box that greeted me 12 days after I ordered. ¥73000 for Core 2 2.4 ghz, 4gigs of ram, 320gig HDD. And an ATI Radeon with 512M, so it's decent for gaming too.
Here's the top, it has this really nice design that made my wife happy. She wants things to be pretty, not just functional. Sigh...
Also when turned on, the HP logo goes all glowy, so that's cool.
And here it is, everything I wanted and easy to afford.
I was online within 5 minutes of opening the box and I had FireFox and ZoneAlarm installed shortly afterwards. It'll take a little while to get all of my favourite programs installed, but that's not too hard.
After I come back from Australia, this will become my wife's laptop. So there will no longer be arguements over who gets to use the desktop. Actually, it's faster than my desktop.

Looks like a big piece of kit to cart around with you. How much does it weigh?
about 3.5Kg. it's reasonable considering how big the screen is.
