Ready Set SHOP!
>> Friday, 22 May 2009
The other day I was walking past Sogo on my way to the station when I saw the crowds lined up ready to begin shopping. There were no special sales, it was just a regular Tuesday morning.
Here we have everyone lined up at 09:59.
How calm, how zen.
The doors are open and all that's holding back the crowds is one staff member standing at the doorway and good manners. This would never happen in Australia.

And here again at 10:01
They are off to inject funds into the domestic economy.

if you get ahead of the pack, you can experience having all the sales people bow at you as you pass by, I did this when I first came to Japan and was wondering if there was a celebrity behind me??
It's just as freaky if you are there for closing time. Everyone bowing at you, thanking you for shopping there even though you didn't buy anything!
the best one is you are the only person in the store, you walk past a shop worker, they say "irasshaimase", you walk past them within a couple of minutes/seconds and they still say "irasshaimase".
I HATE that!
