Festival Stalls
When I went to the Shrine the other day I found a number of stalls there. These are the usual stalls you'll find at any Japanese festival filled with people smoking cigarettes as they cook the expensive food.
The view of all the stalls. It was busier last year when we visited on January 1st.
Fairy floss in cute plastic bags, Chocolate dipped bananas - who knows how fresh they are!
Ah refreshments! ¥500 for a can of beer that you can buy at the supermarket for ¥150. Talk about paying for convenience!
¥400 for roasted Corn on a stick, they must think people are made of money!
Now for something interesting, some painted Daruma's for good luck for the new year.
Up close, without their eyes painted in.

Oh, I've never seen white daruma before. Are they for success in exams do you think?
I love food stalls! I know the prices are ridiculous, and the safety is suspect, but it's a part of the atmosphere.
@Mel, I've seen yellow & green before but it was a first to see white. I asked my wife, she thinks it might have meaning but she isn't sure. I'll ask some of my students on Saturday.
@Thomas, talk about atmosphere? The cigarette ask in the Yakisoba only adds to the flavor!
