Christmas Eve 2007

Today as my wife was going to spend some time with one of her aunts, I decided to head into the heart of Tokyo and do a little exploring. With hindsight I think I'd have been better off staying at home.

Yesterday was the Emperors Birthday, so today was the differed public holiday. In short, everywhere was crowded!

I had thought about going to a nice hotel buffet, but looking around at the crowds of people, I decided against it. When I was in Roppongi, I found a Wendy's store and decided to go in. I'd have been better off walking by.

Seeing as I'd never eaten at Wendy's before, I thought I'd try the SuperMega burger. The burger related object that was delivered to me looked nothing like the picture on the left and you'd be scared to see it. So no photograph, but it looked messy and carelessly made.

Upon eating the first bite, I knew I wouldn't enjoy the rest. The taste of poor quality meat and tomato sauce filled my mouth. Nothing else came to mind. I finished it but I won't be going back. Ever.

Next I decided to have a bit of an explore around Roppongi, the shopping center at Roppongi Hills was pretty cool and they were advertising an Ultraman Exhibition, but it will be over by the 18th of January, so sorry Lina I don't think you will make it.

Walking even further I caught a glimpse of Tokyo Tower and decided to make a beeline for it. I figured if I'd made the 2 hour trip into the heart of Tokyo, I'd spend a few yen and see all of it. Oh boy, was that a silly idea!

By the time I arrived at Tokyo Tower, I found that the queue to ride the elevator had a 60 minute wait just to buy tickets. I took a few snaps and then caught the bus to Shibuya.

But when getting of at my home station, I found an interesting sight. The local KFC was closed for regular customers and they were only serving pre-ordered chicken packs. There were many other places offering fried chicken packs or cakes with out of season strawberries on them (that reference is for Spoona & Penguin) that just made my mind boggle.

But we did have the KFC Colonel in his Christmas Gear.

Lina, sorry to have been the bearer of bad news.

Thomas, Valentines in Dec indeed!

Scott, welcome to my blog.
I've only been up Tokyo Tower & Landmark Tower in Yokohama. Kyoto tower is on the list of things to do.

I too am struggling to survive the feeding frenzy here over Xmas. At least we've been warned about Wendy's.

Crazy! We ran away from the city and headed for quiet little Mastumoto. Was lovely. Got back tonight. Will blog about it soon.... though you know I can be slack at times.... ;)

Hope you had a lovely Christmas

Thanks for taking note of the strawberries :-). This is what a real Christmas cake looks like (complete with 100% strawberry absence ;-).
